How the price is set

  • The price is the weighted average of the auction clearing prices of EU ETS allowances.
  • In 2026 the Commission calculates one price per quarter, in the first calendar week after the quarter ends.
  • Each quarterly price applies to the certificates for goods imported in that quarter.
  • From 2027 the Commission publishes a price every week.
  • The methodology is laid down in Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/2548.

Where you buy certificates

Sales start on 1 Feb 2027 on the common central platform, open only to authorised declarants through the CBAM Registry. You buy from the EU country where your company is established.

Example: how much the quarter matters

For 100 t of welded steel pipes from China (CN 7306 30 77) you must surrender 246.78 certificates:

Frequently asked questions

Is the CBAM price the same as the EU ETS market price?

Not exactly. It is the weighted average of EU ETS auction clearing prices in the period, calculated and published by the European Commission.

Which price do I use for Q4 2026 imports?

The Q4 price is published on 4 Jan 2027. Until then you can budget with an assumption, for example the Q3 price, and change it in the calculator.

When do I pay the certificates for 2026 imports?

Certificates can be bought from 1 Feb 2027 and must be surrendered by 30 Sep 2027, together with the first annual declaration.

What we do and what we don't

We calculate the CBAM cost per supplier, help you find suppliers who already have verified data, and prepare the paperwork: the authorised declarant dossier, the annual declaration, the certificate budget and the audit file. We do not verify emissions, we are not an indirect customs representative and we do not give legal advice. Customs declarations stay with your customs broker. You remain legally responsible as the declarant.

General information, not legal or tax advice. The calculations are estimates based on the official European Commission files; your result depends on the CN code, country, supplier and import quarter.
